Officially launched in October 2010, the project is scheduled to last three years following its inclusion in Eco-innovation, a European programme forming part of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (EIP) that contributes to the implementation of Environmental Technologies Action Plan guidelines.

Through the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP), Eco-innovation offers support services to both public and private businesses of EU Member States aiming to promote the effective marketing and economic exploitation of Europe's most eco-innovative products and services. Eco-innovation supports European environmentally-friendly innovation plans, i.e. those specifying, developing and implementing projects for eco-innovative products, techniques or services with a life-cycle oriented approach which aim at the prevention or the reduction of environmental impacts as regards the environmental risk, pollution and use of material and energy resources.
